Mandated Reporter & Duty-to-Warn Notice

We will keep what you share private with only a few exceptions. You deserve to know what those are before you tell us anything.

Georgia law and professional ethics require Heart of Care staff (including Certified Peer Specialists) to break confidentiality in the following situations: 1. Suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child (Georgia O.C.G.A. § 19-7-5). 2. Suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an elder or disabled adult (Georgia O.C.G.A. § 30-5-4). 3. A serious, imminent threat to your own life or to a specific identifiable person — in which case we may notify emergency services and, when required, the intended target. 4. A valid court order signed by a judge. Outside of those four situations, information you share with Heart of Care stays with Heart of Care unless you sign a Release of Information asking us to share it. We will always tell you, whenever possible, before making a required report and will help you understand what happens next.
